From the President

The month of May has been very busy in meeting with SES Units across the state of Western Australia. Each SES Unit was invited to provide the next step in consultation for the coming Combined Emergency Services Legislation. It is critically important that SES members have their input to government prior to the release of the discussion paper.

DFES Conference 2023

The biggest event of our year is right around the corner, with just over three months to go before the 2023 WAFES Conference and Awards are held on Friday September 8th and Saturday September 9th.

Volunteers who would like to attend the conference and awards have two ways to register to be a part of the weekend’s events.

National Memorial Service

An AFAC Memorial Medallion was presented to the families and the service also acknowledged the names added to the Memorial Wall, which lists all who have died in the line of duty since records began.

WOW Day 2023

Many SES Units celebrated WOW Day at their units or at their community’s significant  landmarks. This month’s Newsletter is a bumper WOW Day edition showcasing this special day.

Bayswater SES

On 10th May 2023, long service awards recognising 100 years of diligent service to the SES were presented to

Bayswater SES members by Acting Deputy Commissioner Jon Broomhall AFSM.  Medals, clasps and medallions presented on the night.

WAPOL EOU

Senior Sergeant Gavin Radice has been the Officer-in-Charge of the Emergency Operations Unit (EOU) since August 2022. He was the previous Officer-in-Charge of Water Police, however he has had a long career serving at numerous police stations across the state.

Fatigue Management

Fatigued people are often unaware that they are not functioning as well as they would be if they were not fatigued, and this can make it difficult to diagnose. Keeping everyone safe requires us to not only be vigilant in self-assessment but also identify fatigue-related behaviour in the people we work with.

 

SESVA Elections

Several Management Committee terms of appointment end at the 2023 AGM. All Units are invited to nominate for these positions. Nominations close Thursday 13th of July 2023.
