Service of Thanksgiving
A Service of Thanksgiving was conducted this evening (Sunday 6 October 2013) at St Georges Cathedral. Perth. The service was a Choral Evensong which combines choral music with readings from the scriptures, prayer and teaching. This was the second to be conducted, the inaugural Service of Thanksgiving being held last year.
The service was conducted for DFES career and Volunteers and their families to recognise and celebrate their dedication and commitment to the community.
The service was held in conjunction with The Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem. The first lesson was read by the Minister for Emergency Services, Joe Francis MLA, and the intercession prayers were led by DFES Chaplin Reverend Ron Wingate.
The Address covered how both career and volunteers of Department of Fire and Emergency Services and The Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem both were committed to serving mankind , thus following God’s son, Jesus instruction to service our fellow man. The service was followed by fellowship and a light supper on the Cathedral’s Parvis as we watched the sunset over our great city.
Extract from the service introduction: We give thanks especially this night for the sacrifice and selflessness of all those who give of their time and their talents for the good of those in distress or in need in our society: for the staff and volunteers of our Fire and Emergency services, for the members of The Order of St Lazarus of Jerusalem, and for whose service makes our world a better, safer, and more caring placelarge group, a representative group photo of all services at service.
