Administration of SES grants is a continuous process. SES Units will by now have been informed of their operating and capital grant allocations for the 2025 financial year. By March 2025, local governments will be required to submit their requests for SES funding for the 2026 financial year to DFES. This means that SES units will need to be thinking ahead and engaging with their local government and their DFES regional office.
Guidance on procuring grants for operational and capital grants can be found in the Local Government Grants Scheme (LGGS) manual. The manual for each year can be found on the DFES https://dfes.wa.gov.au/emergency-services-levy#local-governments-grant-scheme
Curiously, the same website provides a listing of SES Emergency Vehicles, Trailers and Boats, published in 2007. Do not rely on that listing.
The website also provides a list of SES and Bushfire Brigade operating and capital grants for 2024 and earlier financial years. Capital grants include vehicles, plant, equipment and buildings. Interpretation of these numbers can be misleading. Not all capital funding is actually spent in that year or exclusively for SES. For example, incident control vehicles are being booked up to SES when these are actually being utilised as regional all hazards resources, including fire support.
