The Mount Helena Whim and Hills Billy Cart Festival was held on the 27th of October 2019. The Mundaring SES entered their cart nicknamed “The Troopy” after 6 weeks of building from entirely recycled materials found at the tip and on verge collection, or in the sheds of our members. Our driver Karri Simpson is the daughter of one of our Team Leaders and she is also a Cadet for the Mundaring VFRS.
On the day, The Troopy gained lots of attention, Karri successfully raced the cart on 5 runs, where many didn’t make it down the first. We had members of the community coming up to talk to us about what the SES does, how we get involved during severe weather or just to thank us for volunteering our time to help others. We had a great turn out of our own members coming along to support the cart, they enjoyed talking to people and bringing their families along as well, it was a great event and we can’t wait to participate again next year.
