Land Search Operation – Mount Augustus

About 6:20pm last night, Saturday 9 November 2019, Police were notified of a missing hiker in the Mount Augustus area.  The missing man, a 69 year-old German tourist, had commenced a hike of the Mount Augustus trails about 9:00am yesterday morning. The man was hiking with his wife. The two became separated, and the man’s wife arrived back at the car park about 3:00pm. After waiting for about an hour for her husband to return, she sought assistance from other tourists in the area.

The tourists and local residents conducted a search of the area and could not locate the man, and Police were advised of the situation.

Police from Burringurrah, Carnarvon, Geraldton, and Meekatharra have been deployed to the search area. An AMSA Rescue Jet was deployed overnight to conduct a search of the area, however the man was not located.

The search is continuing this morning with Police and DFES State Emergency Service volunteers involved in the search.

The AMSA Rescue Jet conducted another search of the area Sunday morning, and Karratha Police Air Wing are deploying to the area with SES search crews from Karratha. Additional search team members are being flown to the search area from Perth.
