SES WOW day – Very Successful
This year’s Wear Orange to Work (WOW) day, in appreciation of the great work SES Volunteers do in their communities, was very successful. There were record media interviews across the whole state with a total audience of 1,196,743 reached (up from 559,000 last year). This is an increase worth celebrating, which has probably been helped by the increase and support in social media by DFES.
The radio interviews of SES Volunteers around the state were well received and generated much needed awareness on the great role that SES Volunteers play in their communities. The WOW function on Wednesday night at the Belmont SES Unit was attended by more than 250 SES Volunteers and DFES staff. The FES Commissioner, Wayne Gregson APM, the Minister for Emergency Services, Hon. Fran Logan MLA, and SESVA President, Gordon Hall, all spoke about the SES roles in their communities and the support to other services both in this state and interstate.
The attendees had a great night sharing stories and catching up with each other.
The success of the night can be attributed to the WOW day working group made up of DFES staff including Steve Summerton and Georgina Ford and SES Volunteers David Worth and Lin Booth.
The use of the Belmont SES facility was greatly appreciated by all.
