Volunteer Fuel Card Scheme
As part of the National Party Electoral Policy for the last state elections they proposed a Volunteer Fuel Card for emergency service Brigades Groups and Units (BGUs). It is expected that DFES will be officially mailing all BGUs with full details including how to apply for the card, in the week beginning 9 November and the SESVA will have full details on the website soon after the official information is received.
Funding for the Volunteer Fuel Card Scheme in rural areas comes from the Royalties for Regions program and the Government will be funding the BGUs not eligible under the above scheme. DFES are managing the process. Applications, to be part of the scheme for the 2015/16 year, open on 23 November and close on 10 January. Volunteer SES Local Managers will need to be aware that they will need to get their application in on time to be part of the 2015/16 fuel card scheme.
The value of the card is $2000 for each of the four financial years. The information sent out will detail a number of important points including that all monies not used in a financial year are forfeited – the only exception is for the 2015/16 financial year as the fuel card is expected to be issued in February and therefore only has four months in that year.
