Easter Message from the President of the SESVA
Easter is generally a fun holiday with family, traditions and festivities in this great country of ours. Bunnies lay eggs and children hunt for eggs. In the Northern hemisphere they are coming out of their winter and looking forward to spring and all the beauty it brings out, whilst here in WA, we leave the summer behind with fine and cool days upon us and the opportunity to catch up with people and relax.
For SES Volunteers it is usually an opportunity to catch up with people, do a number of jobs and ensure preparation is done for the winter storms that are only a month or so away. Since Christmas it has been a very busy time for the SES Volunteers, in particular assisting the Bush Fire Volunteers during their firefighting activities in protecting their communities.
This is truly the BFB and SES Volunteers protecting their Communities.
The partnerships that the SESVA is building for the SES Volunteers is providing awareness of what they do in their communities, as part of those communities. It is very important to retain the strong community links for all SES Volunteers in the future.
So far this year we have seen great exposure by Bunnings for many SES Units and their Volunteers, a media campaign by BHPB about SES Volunteers, including billboards in Perth, and now the good work SES Volunteers do is being recognised at many Woolworths stores in the lead up to and over Easter, as they have undertaken to support and fundraise for the great work that the SES Volunteers do in this State and the rest of Australia. Monies raised will be fed back to the SES Units around the state.
Some SES Volunteers have already been at Woolworths stores promoting the Easter promotion – see photos below.
As Easter approaches us, and on behalf of the SESVA, I would just like to wish all of the SES Volunteers, their families and their many supporters a very Happy and Safe Easter.
Gordon Hall
President, SESVA
