27/05/2014 – SESVA attend Great Southern Leaders Forum

Great Southern Region SES Leaders Forum
The Great Southern Region held a State Emergency Service Volunteers leaders Forum last Saturday and Sunday. It was held at Gnowangerup Training Centre which had a meeting room and allowed for overnight accommodation.  State Emergency Service Volunteers leaders attended from Esperance, Ravensthorpe, Albany, Wagin, Denmark, Pingelly, Mt Barker, Narrogin and Gnowangerup. Leaders from Tambellup Volunteer Emergency Service (VES) attended whilst Hyden VES had seasonal farming duties to attend.

The agenda included range of topics suggested by the Volunteers, including the DFES Legislation Concept Paper, delays in Capital Building Projects, recruitment issues and Training Pathways for SES.  Great Southern Regional staff Superintendent, Daniel Austin and SES District Officer, Lynda Elms were on hand to contribute to the discussion. State Emergency Service Volunteers Association was represented by secretary, Lin Booth and past president Phillip Petersen who attended the Saturday part of the forum.

On the drive home, Lin had expressed that it had been worth the long drive to meet with the DFES staff and SES Volunteers of the Great Southern Region and to gain a greater understanding of how the Volunteers in this region of Western Australia tackled emergency service in their communities.
