13/02/2013 – Missing quad bike rider recovering in hospital

A 35-year-old man is recovering in hospital after spending more than 50 hours in the bush without food or water.  Paul Pyke was quad bike riding with friends in Sawyers Valley on Sunday but became separated from the group.  He survived for two and half days in 40 degree temperatures before finally being found yesterday afternoon.

SES Volunteers first found his abandoned quad bike and a tracker team from the police Tactical Response Group was brought in to follow his footprints.  Mr Pyke was dehydrated and sunburnt when a tracker team fround him.

Dozens of State Emergency Service volunteers fom a number of SES Units and police officers were involved in the search, along with a police helicopter and plane.

Mr Pyke remains in a stable condition in Royal Perth Hospital
