Please be advised the two missing tourists have been located alive and well. They were found by two Wyndham residents on the Gibb River Road, about 5km east of the Pentecost River. This is about 100km from Kununurra (rough approximate distance). They bogged their 4WD vehicle on the Karunje Track on Saturday and walked along the Pentecost River to the Gibb River Road, which they had started to walk along. They were taken to the Kununurra Police Station by their rescuers (arrived about 10am) and will now be taken to the Kununurra District Hospital for medical check-ups (have been walking for 3 days).
Kununurra Police are seeking information regarding two Swiss Nationals who were visiting Kununurra and are unable to be located. Gerald and Lotti AUGSBURGER arrived in Kununurra on Friday 11 January 2013. They were driving a white Toyota Prado 4WD (Hertz hire vehicle) with Western Australia registration:
They were due to check out of their accommodation on Sunday morning but never presented at reception. They were last seen by staff on Saturday morning. Both Gerald and Lotti have Swiss/French accents and it is believed they may have attended fishing spots and points of interest in the surrounds of Kununurra.
A Land Search and Rescue Operation is continuing today, including an air search. State Emergency Service volunteers and Department of Environment and Conservation Rangers are currently deployed with police. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Gerald and Lotti AUGSBURGER are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
