SES Volunteer's Association of Western Australia Incorporated

“Together we can; Together we will”

06/12/2024 – From the SESVA President December 2024

From the SESVA President Greg Cook

Hi to you all, as we enter a festive time of year. This is time to say many thanks on behalf of the members of our Association to our volunteers and the DFES District Officers throughout the State who try and support our activities.

Whilst this is done through various mediums during the year, we will soon earn a break from the training schedule to maintain the many skills and knowledge sets required to be a safe and effective emergency responder.

Importantly, I would like to acknowledge all the families and employers who have provided encouragement and understanding enabling us all to do what we selflessly do.

At a higher government level, we thank Commissioner Klemm for the role that is just not easy and Minister Dawson for his dedication to our sector and for always remaining polite, respectful, and courteous with the volunteer workers who contribute so much to Western Australia.

There are many more in DFES and in Government to thank; know that Christmas cards with our thanks are on the way.

The Association has been out and about with our volunteer members. Some of the activities for November are below:
• Kimberley Volunteer Leaders Forum – Broome
• Pride March – Northbridge
• Visit to all Great Southern SES Units
• Great night with Manjimup SES Unit members
• President and Vice President as Trainers at the Local Manager Course in Donnybrook over two weekends
• A day as an adjudicator at the DFES Cadets MERC at Langley Park

These are only some examples and there many other good things that have been completed by hard-working Executive and Management Committee members. We can’t get this all done without the professional support we get from the VA Administration Officer in our Belmont office; thank you so much, Bella.

I wish you all the very best for a festive Christmas and a happy New Year.

Finally, and just to reinforce the SES message; all SES Units are open 24 hours, 7 days a week during the holiday period. We are here to help our communities when things get dangerous, and hardship is felt. Stay Safe.
