Funeral of Merryl Dray, Queensland State Emergency Service Volunteer
In Brisbane on Saturday 19 March a funeral service was held for State Emergency Service Volunteer Merryl Dray. Ms Dray was a Volunteer with the Lowood State Emergency Service group and sadly drowned during a rescue operation helping a family escape floodwater at Coolana, West of Brisbane.
The event was attended by many people including family members, many State Emergency Service Volunteers, QFES and SES career staff and members of the public. Ms Dray was known to be passionate about assisting her community and served honourably as a Volunteer for more than 4 years and 500 hours of service.
We all need to recognise the dangers to State Emergency Service Volunteers in responding to emergencies in our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all her family, friends, and State Emergency Service personnel and career staff.
Gordon Hall ESM Chair of the National SES Volunteers Association and Mandurah Volunteer said “Merryl Dray’s service to the Queensland communities and the state agency will be long remembered and appreciated”
