28/10/2021 – Merredin SES Forensic Training

Merredin SES Forensic Training

Over recent months the media has reported several incidences of people becoming lost in the outback, or during a weekend away. In some instances, the result of searches has not been positive.

Recently, Merredin SES Volunteers conducted a skills training day to refresh their skills in Land Search techniques. Elements of the training included:

  • Scene preservation and
  • Forensic Searches

Merredin SES was fortunate to have assistance from Senior Constable Carr, from WA Police Forensics on the day. Also in attendance were members from neighbouring Local Bushfire Brigades and Merredin Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Officer Carr explained how the Forensics Department worked; what the SES could do to assist in searches; priorities of securing scenes from contamination; and, what to look for during forensic searches, such as grid searching etc.

Following the theoretical training, all participants ventured outside to enjoy the weather, and fellowship while conducting formal investigations.  Training concluded with a BBQ lunch
