New Emergency Services Minister

The SES Volunteers Association congratulates the Honourable Reece Whitby MLA on his appointment as the Minister for Emergency Services, Racing and Gaming, Small Business and Volunteering.

SESVA President Greg Cook said we look forward to working with the new Minister and we thank the outgoing Minister the Honourable Fran Logan MLA for his work. We welcome the opportunity to work with the new Minister to form a positive and productive working relationship with him.

Greg also said we will be requesting a meeting with the new Minister as soon as possible to provide a briefing on the SESVA and discuss Emergency Services and Volunteering issues.

Background

Reece Raymond Whitby (born 29 May 1964) is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2017 state election, representing Baldivis. Shortly after the 2017 election he was appointed by Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Minister for Energy and Finance and as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Environment and Disability Services. Reece Whitby was successful in his seat of Baldivis and has also been given the portfolios of Minister of Emergency Services,  Racing and Gaming, Small Business and Volunteering.

Whitby was raised in Balga and was a journalist before entering politics. He was a newsreader and senior reporter at Channel Seven. He ran unsuccessfully as the Labor candidate for Morley in 2008 and 2013.
