23/01/2017 – Great Aussie BBQ Workshop

SESVA GREAT AUSSIE BBQ WORKSHOP

Each year emergency services Volunteer units and groups are invited to participate in the Bunnings Australia Day Great Aussie BBQ event, with all sales and donation proceeds going to participating Volunteer groups.  In anticipation of this year’s Bunnings Great Aussie BBQ, the SES Volunteers Association conducted a special workshop to assist SES units to prepare for the event.   The workshop was held on 15th January at the SESVA’s Guildford location.   Several SES Units took advantage of this opportunity to learn how to get the most out of the event.  Units who attended included, Mandurah, Rockingham-Kwinana, Gosnells, CSU, Melville, Canning South Perth, Wanneroo/Joondalup  and Stirling.

Bayswater SES Unit demonstrated the ideal setup for the BBQ sausage sizzle, including how Volunteers manning the BBQs at Bunnings, should and shouldn’t dress for the occasion.

All participating units were provided with a special pack of goodies, including posters, balloons, stickers and a I (heart ) SES stamp.  The SESVA has provided participating SES Units a Certificate of Appreciation for Unit Managers to present to their local participating Bunnings store.   The pack also provided a USB drive with additional information about the BBQ, including a promotional video that will be run on regional TV stations.

SESVA President, Gordon Hall and Vice President, Alan Hawke facilitated a Powerpoint presentation and Q & A session.

SES Volunteers who attended agreed the workshop provided an excellent opportunity to gain additional pointers on how to get the most out of the Great Aussie BBQ event.  Participants also enjoyed networking with other SES Unit Volunteers.
