ACT State Emergency Service

The main function of the ACT State Emergency Service is to undertake response operations for storms and floods.   The State Emergency Service also undertakes civil defence planning and civil defence operations; assists other agencies, such as the Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service in emergencies; and assists the Police and Airservices Australia to undertake operations in relation to searches.   The SES provides support for community organisations where this assists the training of SES staff and volunteers, and where there is a definite benefit to the community.   The SES undertakes planning and response operations for storms and floods.

DFES

The Department of  Fire and Emergency Services of Western Australia (DFES) coordinates the response to a wide range of emergencies including fire, cyclones, storms, floods, road crash, hazardous material spills, earthquakes and tsunami as well as undertaking search and rescue operations on land and water.

We also aim to reduce injury, loss of life and destruction of property in our community through proactive measures. DFES helps the West Australian community prepare for, prevent and respond to and recover from an emergency.

Northern Territory Emergency Services

The Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services is referred to as a Tri-Service. The Tri-Service is responsible for the protection of life and property and the provision of disaster and emergency management to widely dispersed communities throughout the 1.35 million square km of the Northern Territory.   Members of the Tri-Service work in diverse locations that extend from the northern reaches of the Tiwi Islands to the southern desert communities. Members are stationed to the west as far as Wadeye, east to Avon Downs and south to Kulgera.

NSW State Emergency Service

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 226 Units located throughout New South Wales. The Units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls.  While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters.

Queensland State Emergency Service

The State Emergency Service (SES) forms a part of Emergency Management Queensland (EMQ) which is a Division of the Queensland Government's Department of Community Safety (DCS).   State Government and Local Government maintain an important partnership in assisting SES volunteers to provide a valuable volunteer emergency service to their local communities.   The SES is a volunteer organisation and designed to help Queensland communities in times of emergency and disaster. Each year the SES receives thousands of calls for assistance.   SES volunteers care about their communities and are not paid for the great work that they do.   EMQ/SES Unit provides support to SES volunteer Units, Groups and members throughout the State.

South Australian State Emergency Service

The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency service organisation established under an Act of Parliament to render immediate assistance during emergencies and disasters, to provide community response to 'day to day' incidents such as vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents that might require rescue or search services.  The SES also cooperates closely with other statutory emergency services. SES has storm and flood relief as responsibilities in State legislation.  The SES is part of a national network of similar services in each State and Territory around Australia. More than 1,500 SES Volunteers are members of 67 Units across South Australia.

Tasmanian State Emergency Service

The SES provides a volunteer response capability for severe storms and floods, road crash rescue, search and rescue/recovery and a range of other general rescue and community support roles.   In addition the SES provides whole of government advice and executive support to the State Emergency Management Committee and Regional Emergency Management Planning Groups. It also takes the lead with much of the State's emergency management planning and emergency risk management work.
