05/03/2015 - Important Information regarding Volunteers and Present Emergency Situation

Volunteering in the Current Emergency Situation with Fires

The DFES Deputy Commissioner Lloyd Bailey has provided the attached information sheet on Employment Protection for Volunteers, to be circulated to all SES Volunteers.  The attachment sets out section 93 of the Emergency Management Act of 2005.

DC BAILEY then goes on to say, AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE ATTACHMENT;

“It is up to the employee and employer to establish the terms of the employee’s volunteer commitment.  That is, there may be certain circumstances where an employee’s absence from work is unreasonable.  For example: an employee who is the sole operator of a retail business.”

Please take a moment to read (find below) this important information and forward/circulate to all your unit members.
