Lives Lost During Active Service

James (Jim) Regan, a father of two, was the first member of the West Australian State Emergency Service to lose his life while on operational duty.

During a rescue in the Karijini National Park on the 2nd of April 2004, the rescue team was about to attach ropes to the stretcher holding a 25-year-old tourist, when they were hit by a two-metre wall of water.

Eyewitness accounts say that Jim was hit by the full force of the flash flood and he was then swept away.
